Herd Management Practices

Our goal is to produce high quality milk from a well-managed and comfortable herd. The herd's comfort, health, and wellness are our number one priority and we continue to innovate and improve our practices to ensure these results.

We run two double 30-parallel milking pits in our milking parlor to ensure our milking herd of 3,200 Holsteins experience a quick turn-around and little time away from the comfort of their pen. Our employees are trained to respect and care for each animal the best they can to ensure no animal is hurt or sick within the milking string. Any sick cows are immediately singled out and sent to a secondary pen where they can receive the treatment they need to return to full health and rejoin the herd. Our milking protocol is stress-free and sanitary to ensure the best possible results for the herd's wellness and milk quality.

Running a dairy in California presents challenges with summer heat that must be combated to ensure the comfort and well-being of the herd. To overcome the heat, fans have been installed in the free-stall barns and milking barn to provide air movement under the shade of the barn roofs for the enjoyment of the herd. Along the feed bunk, a high pressure sprinkler system functions to provide a source of evaporative cooling for the cows. This not only provides the cows with relief from the heat, it also acts as a fly abatement system to complement the fly spraying we have done.
